forklog.media William Mougayar Defends Ethereum Foundation Against Community Criticism

Blockchain researcher and investor William Mougayar has defended the Ethereum Foundation (EF), stating that the organization is "doing exactly what it was created for." https://t.co/TCA3lPwh3W— William Mougayar (@wmougayar) May 24, 2026 In an essay titled Leave the Foundation Alone, the author of "The Business Blockchain" wrote: "It is not a corporation. It was never intended to be one. The sooner the market accepts this, the sooner the noise around it will become irrelevant."  The statement was prompted by growing criticism of the EF amid weak ETH performance, the foundation's coin sales, and accusations of insufficient ecosystem support. Mougayar emphasized that the organization should not be involved in promoting the cryptocurrency's price or institutional marketing of the network. "The Ethereum Foundation does not market ETH, pump your portfolios, or conduct roadshows for institutions — that is not its function," he wrote. The Foundation is on a Path of "Self-Diminishment" According to Mougayar, the Ethereum Foundation is consciously aiming to become less significant to the ecosystem over time, rather than increasing its control over it. He noted that the organization: funds fundamental research; advances scaling; works on privacy; explores post-quantum resilience; enhances Ethereum's compatibility with AI; supports developer standards. The researcher compared the community's expectations of the Ethereum Foundation to expecting the IETF to buy advertising slots for the TCP/IP protocol during the Super Bowl. Mougayar also urged distinguishing between three different entities: ETH (as a cryptocurrency), Ethereum (the infrastructure), and EF (the organization). In his view, conflating these concepts leads to misguided expectations and "erroneous forecasts." In March, the EF published an updated mandate, reaffirming the principle of minimal intervention in the network's development.

forklog.media Why 37 European Banks Are Launching Their Own Cryptocurrency

This week, "Deconstruction" focuses on the launch of the first quantum computer in the UAE, SpaceX's secret bitcoins, crypto companies' accounts at the Federal Reserve, and the death of the cypherpunk movement. The Threat of "Quantum Utility" Quantum computers are no longer a future technology; they are entering the stage of "quantum utility", posing a real threat to the encryption algorithms of Bitcoin and Ethereum.  Protection against quantum hacking requires sacrifices—tests of post-quantum solutions have already shown a reduction in blockchain throughput by 20–40%. While Ethereum plans a transition by 2029, Bitcoin developers are notably lagging in discussions on protection. SpaceX Bitcoins and the End of Free AI The SpaceX IPO sets a new standard where buying shares in a rocket company means indirect investment in crypto and AI.  Top analytical platforms misjudged SpaceX's hidden reserves by more than 100%—the company holds 18,712 BTC worth $1.3 billion. This proves that we are far from understanding the real volumes of cryptocurrency on corporate balance sheets.  Meanwhile, Musk's lawsuit with OpenAI confirmed that cutting-edge AI will remain closed, forcing Web3 startups to abandon direct competition and focus on absolute privacy and protection from censorship. Banks' Plans to Capture Cryptocurrency Governments are transferring the competition of national currencies to the blockchain. Trump allows crypto companies direct access to the US Federal Reserve, while 37 European banks are creating their own euro stablecoin to combat the digital dollar.  Traditional financiers consider backing stablecoins with gold, as Tether does, a huge risk that could trigger a liquidity crisis. This will inevitably lead regulators to force issuers to abandon risky assets in favor of government bonds. The End of Cypherpunk? The Web3 industry has almost completely lost its original ideology of independence, trading privacy for convenience, and ceding the role of a payment medium to a controlled quasi-fiat in the form of stablecoins.  Despite blockchain becoming part of the banking system and decentralization remaining merely a declaration, the ideas of crypto-anarchism are not destroyed. Their popularity could sharply increase in the event of another global financial collapse, which the world is now likely approaching. This is a shortened version of the podcast. forklog.media New Bitcoin Reserve Bill Introduced in US Congress

The US House of Representatives has introduced the American Reserve Modernization Act of 2026 (ARMA). The document proposes to formally establish a strategic bitcoin reserve under the management of the Treasury Department. The primary authors are Republican Nick Begich and Democrat Jared Golden. ARMA provides for the creation of a strategic bitcoin reserve within the US Treasury and separate repositories for other crypto assets. Federal agencies will be required to provide full accounting and transfer coins for centralized storage by the department. The bill includes: quarterly public reports on reserves; independent audits; oversight by Congress. The bitcoins in the reserve are proposed to be held for no less than 20 years. Sales are permitted only to reduce national debt. The bill also enshrines the right of US citizens to own digital assets, store them independently, and transfer them without restrictions. ARMA is based on President Donald Trump's executive order of March 6, 2025, which called for the creation of a strategic bitcoin reserve. At that time, authorities ordered the transfer of the first cryptocurrency, confiscated in criminal and civil cases, into the reserve.  The Treasury and the Department of Commerce were also tasked with exploring budget-neutral ways to purchase additional coins without taxpayer expense. Notably, the new bill lacks a target reserve value of 1 million BTC. Such a provision was included in the earlier BITCOIN Act authored by Senator Cynthia Lummis.  In May, Trump signed an order to integrate digital assets into the traditional financial system and review the rules for crypto companies' access to payment infrastructure.

forklog.media StablR’s EURR and USDR Stablecoins Lose Peg After $2.8 Million Hack

The European issuer of stablecoins, StablR, has fallen victim to a hack resulting in the theft of at least $2.8 million. This was highlighted by Blockaid. 🚨Community Alert Blockaid's exploit detection system has identified an ongoing exploit on @StablREuro. ~$2.8M extracted so far. Both tokens are depegged: 0x50753cfaf86c094925bf976f218d043f8791e408 (StablR Euro) and 0x7b43e3875440b44613dc3bc08e7763e6da63c8f8 (StablR USD) on…— Blockaid (@blockaid_) May 24, 2026 The attack on the smart contracts of the two coins — EURR and USDR — was also reported by the well-known on-chain investigator ZachXBT. According to his information, the perpetrator funded the operation through the cross-chain bridge CCTP on the Noble platform from the Cosmos ecosystem.   Preliminary findings from Blockaid experts suggest the hacker compromised the private key of one of the multi-signature owners for minting coins. Due to a weak threshold (1 out of 3), the attacker needed only one account to gain full control over the system. Consequently, he: added himself as an owner and replaced two other legitimate participants; issued 8.35 million USDR and 4.5 million EURR. The coins, with a nominal value of about $10.4 million, were exchanged on decentralized exchanges for 1115 ETH (~$2.8 million) due to low liquidity. “This is not a bug in the smart contract — it is a failure in key management and governance,” concluded Blockaid specialists. They, along with ZachXBT, noted that the StablR team did not respond to the attack for at least several hours. As a result of the incident, the company's stablecoins lost their peg to the underlying assets. At the time of writing, EURR is trading at $0.93 (-20% from nominal), while USDR is at $0.97 (-3%). The euro-based coin's market capitalization is $10.9 million, and the dollar asset's supply is approaching $20.7 million. In May, there have been at least a dozen attacks on crypto projects. Among the affected are TrustedVolumes, THORChain, Verus, Echo Protocol, and Polymarket. Back in April, the industry set a record for the number of hacks — over 20 incidents in a month.
