Will Russia Imprison Bitcoin Users and Why Asian Data Centers May Halt?
This week, "Deconstruction" focuses on new criminal risks for cryptocurrency holders in Russia, the impact of the war in Iran on Asian chip production, the impending collapse of the World Liberty Financial project, and the dominance of insiders in Polymarket and Kalshi prediction markets. Criminal Penalties for Russian Crypto Market Participants Russia will introduce criminal liability for the illegal circulation of cryptocurrency without a Central Bank license. However, one of the main issues is the extremely low threshold for damage assessment. A significant damage is considered to be an amount from 3.5 million rubles, which is easily exceeded by an exchange when purchasing 50,000 USDT with minimal profit. Ordinary asset holders should also be wary. The Central Bank insists on banning non-custodial wallets, imposing fines for their non-declaration, and confiscating cryptocurrencies when used as a means of payment. Experts believe that criminal liability does not guarantee the market's transition to a legal framework; the industry will likely split into a licensed sector with strict limits and an unregulated one, which will remain for businesses to pay for import contracts. Iran's Blow to Asian Big Tech The Middle East war has unexpectedly hit chip production for artificial intelligence in Asia due to disruptions in helium supplies. Helium is a byproduct of processing Qatari natural gas, with no viable alternative for cooling wafers during chip etching in South Korea and Taiwan. The current conflict and rising energy prices also threaten to relocate data center capacities from Europe and Asia to the United States. Despite the threat of missile strikes, major corporations Google and Amazon are not leaving the region but are increasing investments in Saudi Arabia, viewing the Middle East not as a zone of fear but as a center of the future digital economy. The Death Spiral of World Liberty Financial Token holders of the World Liberty Financial project are preparing a class action lawsuit due to the extension of fund freezes for up to four years and the manual blocking of undesirable participants, which destroys the myth of decentralization. The project issues loans secured by its own unsecured token, forming a model of a classic financial bubble, and the technical power of smart contracts allows developers to block assets instantly until court intervention. Analysts suggest three scenarios for future developments. In the case of a high-profile trial, lawyers will achieve the disclosure of internal documents, making the platform toxic and destroying its reputation. The second option is a "financial death spiral," where further token price declines will trigger mass collateral liquidations, leaving investors without real security. The third outcome involves political absorption by Arab capital: the Trump family retreats to avoid accusations, and the public crypto project turns into a closed offshore channel for grey transactions. The Illusion of Prediction Markets Platforms Polymarket and Kalshi exploit economic anxiety under the guise of financial democratization, while only 0.04% of traders take 70% of the profits. Statistics and investigations confirm thriving insider trading, which exists regardless of administrations: traders earned hundreds of thousands of dollars with a 100% win rate on Joe Biden's last-minute pardons, as well as making billions on oil deals before Donald Trump's statements on Iran. The average user trades against people with unique information on platforms that have effectively turned into unlicensed gambling, exempt from local taxes and player protection requirements.
