Keyrock Identifies Cryptocurrencies as Financial Base for AI Agents
Cryptocurrency payments are emerging as the settlement layer for AI agents, as the infrastructure of payment cards is ill-suited for microtransactions, according to a report by Keyrock. From May 2025 to April 2026, AI agents conducted over 176 million on-chain transactions amounting to more than $73 million. Nearly all settlements were made in USDC. The primary demand is for the payment of data, computing power, API, and content without human involvement. An example provided is a trading agent that automatically settles small amounts for market data and cloud infrastructure. Keyrock identified four architectures for agent payments: x402 by Coinbase; Machine Payments Protocol by Stripe and Tempo; Agent Payments Protocol by Google; Visa's card infrastructure for AI commerce. The company believes these solutions form a new payment stack. Coinbase and Stripe already cover five out of its six layers. Major players have directed over $8 billion towards deals and the development of agent transaction infrastructure. The segment received an additional boost following the launch of AWS Bedrock AgentCore Payments in preview mode. Coinbase and Stripe were the first partners of the service. According to Gartner's forecast, by 2028 AI agents could mediate purchases worth $15 trillion. McKinsey estimates the retail agent commerce market to be $3–5 trillion by 2030. Earlier in May, Solana Foundation, in collaboration with Google Cloud, launched a payment system for AI agents — Pay.sh.

Experts Warn of Accelerated Quantum Threat Due to AI
Artificial intelligence is accelerating the development of quantum computing and shortening the timeline in which modern cryptography may become vulnerable, according to CoinDesk. Alex Pruden, head of Project Eleven, stated that machine learning is already being used to optimize error correction—one of the key barriers in creating quantum computers. AI is employed not only for protection but also for identifying vulnerabilities in cryptography and software. NEAR co-founder Ilya Polosukhin noted that artificial intelligence has been accelerating scientific research for several years. He suggested that the next generation of quantum systems might be developed using AI. Polosukhin also pointed to a "collect now, decrypt later" scenario: encrypted traffic could be intercepted today with the expectation of future decryption. The risk is critical for the crypto industry. Most blockchains use elliptic curve cryptography. A sufficiently powerful quantum computer could theoretically derive a private key from a public one, compromising wallets. In Ethereum, the public key is revealed after a transaction is sent, potentially making accounts vulnerable. In March, Google estimated that breaking 256-bit elliptic curve cryptography would require about 1200 logical qubits—significantly fewer than previous calculations. The corporation plans to transition to post-quantum cryptography by 2029. In March, the Ethereum Foundation introduced a roadmap to protect the network from quantum computers. Weekly tests are conducted in the ecosystem with more than 10 client teams participating. The basic protective infrastructure is expected to be completed by 2029. In April, Ripple unveiled a post-quantum readiness roadmap for the XRP Ledger with a target date of 2028. The platform is testing validators in collaboration with Project Eleven. According to market participants, the key risk is not only quantum computing but also its combination with AI. Earlier in May, AmericanFortress proposed another method to protect Bitcoin from the quantum threat.

Scientists Unveil AI System for Graphene Transistor Assembly
Researchers have introduced Qumus, an autonomous AI system designed for experiments with quantum materials. The work is published on arXiv and is yet to be peer-reviewed. The platform integrates robotics, computer vision, and a multi-agent architecture. Qumus operates in a robotic mini-laboratory, executing the entire cycle from protocol planning to result analysis and report preparation. Without human intervention, the system isolated graphene flakes using mechanical exfoliation and fabricated nanoscale devices from atomically thin materials, including a graphene field-effect transistor based on a van der Waals structure. To find a method for obtaining a graphene flake larger than 200 μm², the AI examined four parameters: temperature, contact time, number of press cycles, and tape detachment speed. Over more than four hours and five optimization cycles, the platform produced a fragment measuring 245 μm². Qumus is capable of correcting errors. In one test, the system detected the absence of a silicon chip, reassembled the plan, and repeated exfoliation on a new substrate. In another, it corrected the misclassification of hexagonal boron nitride as graphene. During transistor assembly, the robot conducted a 90-minute dry transfer involving 30 physical operations and 18 decision-making stages. A hierarchical network of agents based on large language models is used to manage the laboratory. Computer vision tracks objects and inventory, employing YOLOv8 for detection. In May, CEO of Keeper Security Darren Guccione stated that AI and quantum technologies will threaten existing security systems.
