forklog.media North Korea Dismisses Accusations of Cryptocurrency Hacks as ‘Absurd Slander’

North Korea's Foreign Ministry has rejected allegations of the country's involvement in cryptocurrency thefts. A ministry representative described media reports as "absurd slander" and a "political tool" of the United States, writes the state agency KCNA. Pyongyang stated that Washington is promoting a "hostile policy" against North Korea in this manner.  The Foreign Ministry representative also pointed out the illogicality of the situation where the United States, with "the world's best cyber capabilities," portrays itself as "the main victim." "Our principled position is to protect cyberspace, the common heritage of humanity, from any malicious actions. We are firmly against attempts to use cyber issues as a political tool to violate sovereignty and interfere in the internal affairs of other countries," the statement said.  Scale of Losses  Earlier, TRM Labs specialists estimated that hackers linked to North Korea stole about $577 million in the first four months of 2026. This accounts for 76% of all losses in cryptocurrency projects during the specified period.  Source: TRM.  Experts emphasized that North Korea's share of stolen digital assets increased from less than 10% in 2020-2021 to 64% in 2025. The total damage exceeded $6 billion. The main contribution to this year's figure came from two attacks in April. TRM Labs linked the Kelp hack of $292 million to TraderTraitor, a group affiliated with Lazarus.  The Drift exploit of $285 million was attributed by analysts to a separate North Korean subgroup, but its involvement is still being verified.  The UN believes that all stolen funds are spent by North Korea on developing nuclear programs.  Researchers have repeatedly stated that North Korean hackers are actively infiltrating cryptocurrency projects. In mid-April, an Ethereum Foundation fellow discovered 100 North Korean IT agents in Web3 companies.  The network of Pyongyang-linked developers in the crypto industry was also revealed by on-chain detective ZachXBT.

forklog.media Galaxy Proposes Strategy to Shield Bitcoin from Quantum Attacks

Alex Thorn, head of Galaxy Research, shared insights on the impact of quantum computing on the premier cryptocurrency. A consensus has emerged within the community on two key issues. i had many discussions about quantum & bitcoin in las vegas this week, both on and off stage, with skeptics, advocates, and many overall smart bitcoiners some consensus i feel is emerging:1) satoshi’s coins (P2PK) should not be touched. violating his property rights could be…— Alex Thorn (@intangiblecoins) May 2, 2026 Thorn believes that Satoshi Nakamoto's coins (in P2PK format) should remain untouched, even under the threat of hacking. Violating the asset creator's property rights would undermine Bitcoin's value proposition. The risk of expropriating these funds is lower than commonly perceived. The coins are distributed across 22,000 addresses, requiring an attacker to hack each wallet individually rather than the entire network. Meanwhile, major exchanges and active users can preemptively switch to quantum-resistant addresses. The analyst noted that the market could absorb even a sudden influx of a large volume of coins. In his view, Bitcoiners would prefer a temporary price drop to preserving the protocol's fundamental principles. Thorn endorsed the development of post-quantum cryptography. Testing new algorithms and optimizing signatures are beneficial for the network, provided they do not cause community discord or distract developers from other tasks. The researcher suggested preparing a ready-to-use technical solution and "putting it on the shelf." This would allow for the rapid implementation of an update when the quantum threat becomes real. Thorn estimated the likelihood of quantum technologies critically impacting Bitcoin at 1%. However, he described the current discussions as useful for preparing the system for future challenges. Back in April, Bitcoin developer Jameson Lopp and a group of experts introduced a draft proposal BIP-361. The initiative suggests freezing coins vulnerable to quantum computers. The community criticized the idea, labeling it authoritarian and confiscatory.

To launch, a user must stake 1 million HYPE. This approach differs from Polymarket's model, which requires platform approval.  Contracts are natively integrated into the L1 HyperEVM network. In the case of Polymarket, event bets are a separate product on the L2 solution Polygon. Predictions are available in the same wallet and trading environment as other Hyperliquid tools. Profit and loss settlements are conducted in the project's stablecoin, USDH. Trading operates via a central order book. forklog.media Reuters: Iran’s Largest Crypto Exchange Nobitex Linked to Ayatollah Khamenei’s Relatives

Iran's largest cryptocurrency exchange, Nobitex, is linked to the influential Kharrazi clan, which has been part of the country's leadership circle for decades, according to an investigation by Reuters. The platform's founders are brothers Ali and Mohammad Kharrazi. To conceal their connection to the dynasty, they used the surname Agamir in corporate documents. The Kharrazi family is closely associated with Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. The founders' grandfather was a member of the Assembly of Experts, and their father was involved in forming the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). Nobitex accounts for the majority of crypto activities in Iran, with over 11 million users. The exchange continued operations even during internet shutdowns in the country. Analysts recorded transactions exceeding $100 million during periods of heightened regional conflicts. According to the report, the platform processed funds from sanctioned organizations. Estimates from analytical companies vary: Elliptic identified suspicious flows amounting to $366 million; Chainalysis estimated the volume at $68 million; Crystal Intelligence found $22 million in direct transfers from sanctioned wallets. In 2025, wallets linked to Iran's Central Bank transferred hundreds of millions of dollars to Nobitex. Experts view this as part of a strategy to circumvent financial sanctions. Nobitex representatives deny any government connections. They claim the share of illegal transactions in total trading volume is insignificant. Analysts Dispute Connection of Blocked USDT to Iran Experts from Nominis analyzed wallets recently sanctioned by the US. Their data suggests the funds may belong to state actors other than Iran. Last week, Tether, at the request of the US Treasury, blocked over $344 million in USDT. The department linked these addresses to IRGC activities. Nominis CEO Snir Levy noted that the behavior of these wallet owners differs from typical Iranian patterns. The IRGC usually distributes assets across multiple transit addresses with small balances and does not hold them for long. In this case, the transaction structure appears different. Levy suggested the infrastructure might belong to Chinese state entities or other foreign networks. In his view, standard monitoring methods are becoming outdated as major players continually change their blockchain usage strategies. The blockade was part of Operation Epic Fury. US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the total amount of seized Iranian crypto assets reached $500 million. He said the campaign aims to exert maximum economic pressure on Tehran. Amid sanctions, Iran has entered a currency crisis. In December, one of the country's largest banks closed, and the national currency fell by 60–70% against the US dollar. In April, journalists reported on a new scheme of bitcoin extortion for passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
